Stone County, Missouri sits within the Ozarks region of the southwestern part of the state, bordered by Table Rock Lake and drawing a mix of permanent residents and seasonal visitors. Like all Missouri counties, its judicial activity generates records across criminal, civil, family, and probate proceedings — documents that are maintained by the Circuit Clerk and subject to defined rules of public access. Knowing where to look and how to request these records correctly can save considerable time, whether the purpose is personal research, legal work, or journalistic inquiry.
Finding Stone County Court Records
Locating court records in Missouri begins with identifying the right venue and access method. The state’s official court portal, Case.net, gives the public free online access to case information for most Stone County matters. Additional guidance on navigating Missouri’s court system can be found through MissouriCourts.us, which can help users identify the correct court division and available public case information. Physical records, certified copies, and documents not yet available electronically can be accessed in person at the Stone County Judicial Center in Galena during regular business hours.
How to Look Up a Court Case in Stone County?
The most practical starting point for a Stone County court records search is Case.net, the Missouri Judiciary’s free, publicly accessible online case management system. Stone County Circuit Court went live on Case.net on November 15, 2005, meaning nearly all cases filed since that date are searchable online. You can search by:
- Litigant name (first and last)
- Case number
- Filing date range
- Scheduled hearings and trial dates
Case.net returns party names, attorney information, docket entries, filed motions, and disposition details. A “Track My Case” feature also allows users to receive notifications when activity occurs on specific matters. For online payments on criminal and traffic cases where that option is available, the Pay by Web feature on the Missouri Courts website allows direct online payment.
For records that predate Case.net, or for certified copies of any filed document, contact the Circuit Clerk’s Office directly:

Are Court Records Public in Stone County?
Missouri’s Sunshine Law, codified primarily in RSMo Chapter 610, establishes a general presumption that records held by governmental bodies — including courts — are open to public inspection. RSMo § 610.011 states that the policy of the state is that the public has a right to access government records and that exceptions to that access should be interpreted narrowly.
That said, certain categories of court records are restricted from routine public disclosure under RSMo § 610.021 and related statutes:
- Juvenile records — delinquency, abuse and neglect, CHINS, paternity involving minors, and adoption cases filed through the Juvenile Division are confidential
- Sealed records — any case or document sealed by court order is inaccessible without a separate order authorizing access
- Attorney-client privileged materials — litigation files involving a public governmental body protected by attorney-client privilege or work-product doctrine may be withheld
- Confidential welfare case details — social services records incorporated into court files
- Sensitive personally identifiable information — credit card numbers, PINs, Social Security numbers, and similar data are subject to redaction even in otherwise public records
- Records confidential by statute — any record expressly protected under another Missouri law
When a custodian denies access to a record, the Missouri Sunshine Law generally requires a written explanation citing the applicable exemption. Parties who believe a denial is improper may seek relief through the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.
