    Online Case Search — Case.net

    The Missouri judiciary's Case.net portal is the main online tool for searching circuit court case records across the state.     Are Court Records Public in Washington County?

    Missouri's Sunshine Law, found in Chapter 610 of the Missouri Revised Statutes, establishes that government records — including court records — are open to inspection and copying unless a specific statute or court order says otherwise. Under RSMo § 610.011, records and deliberations of public governmental bodies are presumed open.

    However, several categories of records are commonly restricted or closed in Washington County:

    Washington County Criminal Court Records

    You can submit name-based searches online through the Missouri Automated Criminal History Site (MACHS), which accepts major credit cards. Fingerprint-based searches require an appointment through IDEMIA, the state's contracted fingerprint vendor, at (844) 543-9712. Fingerprint checks return more complete results, including dismissed charges and records with suspended impositions of sentence after probation completion.

    Washington County Civil Court Records

    Civil case jurisdiction in Washington County is split between the Circuit Court and the Associate Division, depending on the dollar amount and the nature of the claim.     If you don't know which county issued the decree, the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records can provide certified statements about divorces recorded since July 1, 1948. These statements include the names of the parties, the date of divorce, and the county of record — but not the full case file or decree. The fee is $14 per record, with additional copies at $11 each.

    Marriage Records

    Certified copies of original marriage certificates come exclusively from the Washington County Recorder of Deeds — not the state bureau. The Recorder's office, led by Jamie Miner, maintains marriage licenses and related records.

    The marriage license and certified copy fee is $61.00. Only the people named in the record — and others with a valid legal interest — can get certified copies of marriage certificates. Provide the couple's full names and the date of the marriage when you submit your request. If you just need a summary-level marriage statement rather than a full certified copy, the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records in Jefferson City handles those at the state level.

    Child Custody, Paternity, and Domestic Violence

    The Circuit Clerk handles paternity petitions, custody modifications, parenting plan filings, and adult abuse protection orders. You can search these case types through Case.net for non-confidential filings. Domestic abuse cases and certain protection order files may carry access restrictions depending on the court order.     Adoption Records

    Adoption proceedings are confidential in Missouri and are not open to the general public. Accessing sealed adoption records requires either a court order or compliance with the Missouri Adoptee Rights Act, which gives adoptees and birth parents specific rights to pre-adoptive birth certificate information under RSMo §§ 193.125 and 193.128.
